Super or not?

Faith has been in Superkids this week at Lamar University. It is a highly enriched science-based program teaching through centers and hands-on learning. She has thoroughly enjoyed every day and was very excited about the ending festivities today, deciding to wear the butterfly shirt she made. She chatted on the way to Lamar about the botany room, safari room and her bug program. She offered to sing songs but changed her mind in order to save them for the presentation.

Oh, I had big plans to attend. I actually dressed and did my hair - without a cap. I went to Heb and organized groceries with several coupons carefully choosing the next 2 nights of dinner. I watched my clock, it was 1:45. I ran the groceries home and headed down the freeway to the lovely Harvard on the Neches.

Claire fell asleep in the car and I hummed along to Mercy Me's Goodbye Ordinary. I glanced at the clock as I entered the parking lot, 2:12. Good, 3 minutes to spare. Except I noticed there sure were a lot of people there, where are the late WEW's, I am the last one? I swerved in between Suv's & minivans, I was nervous. Am I late? Is my clock wrong? DID I MIX UP THE TIME? I yanked , I repeat yanked Claire from her seat and ran in the side entrance running past a huge poster " DON'T FORGET PARENTS! PROGRAM AT 2:00!"

Well, it could still be going on, I will just sneak in the back of her room and wave at her. Oh, is that her? It is, weeping in the hallway with a friend of mine, who was on the phone, calling yours truly. My friend looks at me, I mouth, "I THOUGHT IT WAS at 2:15?!?!?"

It was at 2:00, I missed her 35 seconds of fame but you would have thought I missed the first day of kindergarten. Her sweet tender heart was so broken she could not sing the songs so my friend pulled her out of the line-up to sit with her.

All the parents gazed at my stupid forgetfulness. They know me, all except the teacher who probably thought I was a schmuck. They all felt so bad for Faith b/c she was so upset, not bratty upset just little girl despair. All my earlier thoughts of when I was at Lamar and used to wish of being chosen to teach Superkids faded as I realized I cannot even manage my first superkid's schedule. She cried in my shirt for a few moments and then quietly got her stuff together, all 13 art project and plants for the day. She brightened as she showed me her ladybug rock and candle she made.

I apologized and offered to take her to get a treat, what else could I do? I asked her in the car if she was mad at me. She said no, she thought I was caught in traffic. She said she knew I would not forget, she just got sad when she kept looking for me and I was never there. So sweet, so forgiving, so tender, so faithful.

Honestly, I can look back and almost be glad it happened b/c it showed me her sweet heart. She did not throw a fit, she just accepted it and was happy to see me. I think she has almost forgotten about it, after I boosted the economy over Dunkin Donuts.

I am sure of one thing, I may not be super but she is my superkid! We don't even need to make ant farms or sand paper scorpions to figure that out.

Here is a clip of her performance. :)

oops

i cannot believe it! i did not share the love i have for my husband on my blog yesterday. i say yesterday, july 17th b/c that is my 10, yes TEN year anniversary! boy, have we come a long way baby! i love you tons, even if i drive you nuts sometimes.

i know all 3 of my readers would be devastated to know i forgot to post about the anniversary. so, i did. it is done. one thing checked off my list.

here is a pic of us 10 years ago, young huh? another tidbit of info that i am sure you care about. we stayed at the intercontinental hotel in houston, very classy. we also stayed in an intercontinental resort on our honeymoon. probably that bit of info did not matter at the time b/c we did not pay for it!

i gotta go, i am making craig lunch. i don't usually do lunch but i am now, we have been married for ten years for pete's sake, i guess it is about time!

of making a mess, i guess. i decided to file all my power castle stuff today. the only problem was i did it at naptime and then until 11:00 p.m.

it took all day. tomorrow i am going to get in the attic and tackle the papers up there. i love the feeling of being organized but i am tired! i know you found this so interesting. maybe now i can begin my summer of scrapbooking. that was the plan but now it is july and i have not started one single page!

for the love of grapefruit

on our trip to HEB yesterday, chatter box faith wondered about grapefruit, she said she had heard of it. is it good? yes, i said. i eat it but i guess i never thought of letting you try it.
the entire afternoon, she reminded me that she was eating grapefruit for breakfast. i felt guilty like i kept her from a major life altering notion.

today, at breakfast, her life changed into a love for grapefruit. she found the grapefruit spoon an exciting challenge. i am sure i knew what a grapefruit spoon was when i was at least. . .25 and registering for flatware.

after breakfast, she asked me if i would buy more at the store tomorrow, if they were not to "extensive." laughing, i said yes, i will buy you more grapefruit.

sure beats sonic. :)

speaking of sonic, we did not make a run today, swim rained out for both lessons. want to guess which darling threw a party and which one derailed?

because i need to get it out

you (all 3 of you) must hear about my day.

it is swimming lesson week.

it is supposed to be fun.

it is for some, it is not for others.

upon claire's return from vbs this morning, she had a stomach ache. i fed her lunch. her tummy still was aching so bad!

me: are you sick claire?

c: yes mommy, very bad.

me: why? (feeling her forehead) you do not have fever, go put your suit on, you have swim lessons.

c: but, i caaaannnn'tttt!

me: (very patiently) why?

c: b/c i am sick, i feel terr-i-ble!

me: i will help you get ready. (reluctantly she gets ready)

as we are loading up in the car, we hear thunder.

c: what will we do if it rains?

me: if is lightning, you will have to sit on the porch or they will cancel your lesson if it does not pass.

c: i still am sick, i caaaannn'tttt swim!

i carry her in on my hip into her swim class, while my toddler walks in mumbling about some preschooler's lightning mcqueen shirt. everyone is under the porch, i feel her spirits lift. her teacher says, "we will make up class at 9:00 on friday, the storm may take a while to pass."

immediately, my sick child jumps out of my arms and starts jumping up & down!!

c: yeah, we do not have swim today! can we go to dunkin donuts or sonic to celebrate?

me: i thought you were sick?

c: (walking ahead of me out of the gate) i am healed, i just did not want to swim.

no, really, i never guessed.

as we get in the car, i squelch the idea of dunkin or sonic and we head to H-E-B, because what else does beaumont have to offer? we shop for chicken, fruit, breakfast bars, ice cream & AA batteries b/c what else do i buy? will is already late for nap and we have one more swim lesson to attend or cancel.

faith's lesson is on b/c the storm passed. she is sooo excited and jumps in the water without even a good-bye! claire waves to her teacher and says, "see you tomorrow miss stacey, i cannot wait to swim & kick & kick." yeah right, who is she fooling?

will, nuk in tow, is quite unpleasant about our departure, he was sure he was getting a swim invite. as i carry him back to the car screaming about water, the idea of a cherry limeade is not a bad idea.

thank goodness happy hour is from 2-4. i may drive through the next 9 days of swim.

i figured it out

i read big mama's blog. sometimes daily. she makes me laugh and she loves Jesus so i like to hear what she says.

one day, i saw a post on her blog that contained her picture. i thought she looked familar. however, i am related to people who think they see people while on vacation touring an indian reservation. i decided i was just nuts.

then, i read another post today on boo mama (another blogger - not the same mama) and she had a pic of big mama - who is not big, on her blog. once again, i decided i know her - big not boo.

i stalked her blog. guess what? she moved to the ol' beaumont in the 7th grade, graduated from WBHS, class of '89, one year ahead of me.

she's a fellow bruin. read on. we had the same hair and love for boone's strawberry wine, i hate to admit both of those things. no offense to her. my admissions could be worse.

her maiden name is on the tip of my tongue. i know i will think of it. . . .

at 3:00 a.m. and no one will care..but me.

it's a small world after all. :)

Since it is your day,
I have something to say:

Don't lift your head.
Have breakfast in bed!

Just take a look . . .
You don't have to cook!

I don't like to brag
But it's breakfast in a bag!

Happy Mother's Day 2008

** Faith brought my Mother's Day present home from school yesterday and she just could not wait to give it to me so she chose this morning! It contained a clementine orange, a bag of tea, granola bar, Hershey kiss and a sweet napkin. She helped me make the tea and then decided she might want the chocolate. Of course, I gave it to her. As I drove her to school, she was so excited that I was drinking my tea. (I did not tell her that I switched the tea bag to decaf when she was not looking, she would have been devastated but the caffeine would have put me in the ER.) Then, Will and Claire split my orange. I saved the bag and laughed as I ate my granola bar. I keep smiling, precious (and typical) memories.
