meet rainey

i so forgot to tell you about the addition to our fam. . . . the girls brought home a hermit crab from the beach, they talked Ma into buying it. they named him/her rainey (short for rainbow i presume).

he has his nights & days mixed up b/c he sleeps all day. i often think he has kicked the bucket but at night, he is awake. the girls have forced him into the bathroom so they do not hear him "scratch" all night. (these are the same kids who want a dog!) he is a bit fiesty, he began crawling toward me as i tried to get a better pic, i put the top back on him. not.happy.if.he.was.loose.in.my.house!

this is not our first hermit crap, stripe was our first one. we name them according to their painted shells. he only lived a few days. so sad. my girls hope rainey lives a happy life. in a cage, in a bathroom, in a house vs. the beach. and we wonder why their life span is short. however, from what i have read, they can thrive many years. i wonder if that will happen over here?
